Walkers of Petworth and Shaw, your day is almost here. The Georgia Avenue/Pleasant Plains Heritage Trail will officially debut in less than two weeks and connect the Shaw-Howard and Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro stations. The trail places a strong emphasis on the culture and history of these communities, which I highlighted a month ago here at On Foot. 19 signs will help illustrate what makes these neighborhoods special.
And now the first ones are there! Yesterday morning, Prince of Petworth brought word that the first 11 of those signs are now up. The rest should be installed these week.
Take a look at the photos and get excited for the trail opening to come. The big kickoff ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 at Howard University Hospital, and in the coming weeks and months, the trail should make D.C. even more walkable and pedestrian-friendly.
