With the news that Clinton Portis has been placed on injured reserve, officially ending his season, it leaves him close to several significant marks. He's 77 rushing yards away from 10,000 in his career, 649 away from becoming the Redskins' all-time leading rusher.

But even before the IR announcement, Dan Daly wondered if the 29-year-old Portis had played his last down for the Skins. Running backs don't age well, as Larry Johnson and Willie Parker can attest.

Do you want the Skins to give Portis another chance next year to get the records? Do you think he can still be a starter?

His body has taken such a pounding and the age and injuries are piling up for C.P., I don't think he's a feature back over 16 games anymore! With that said, he can be an effective 3rd down back in a backfield rotation in the NFL. The issue is going to be 2 things for him: money and his desire to play. His big paydays are over in the NFL and does he still want to play football and what role does he see for himself if he does? I could see him coming back for less money as a 3rd down back b/c he blocks so well and when healthy he can still contribute. This guy can pass block as good as any RB in the history of the NFL!

He is without a doubt an excellent blocker...but even Portis would be hesitant to admit that a 16 game season as a starter would pit himself and the team in jeopardy of a letdown. I agree with the man ahead of me when he stated that being a third down back, or coming in on certasin situations may benefit everyone. And when it comes to teaching the rookies (and I say this with the hopes we draft one of the running backs in the first round) he would be irreplacable.
