Kiper mock draft has Redskins taking Cam Newton; McShay agrees

ESPN NFL draft guru Mel Kiper expects the Washington Redskins to take Auburn quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton with the 10th overall pick in April.
Kiper released his first mock draft of the season yesterday afternoon. His adversary/fellow ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay did as well.
McShay usually strongly disagrees on most Kiper takes, but this year they are at least on the same page when it comes to the Redskins. McShay also has Newton also headed to Washington.
Yesterday we went over the Redskins' options at quarterback, and discussed the differing opinions on the quarterback prospects in the draft. Kiper and McShay demonstrate this. Both agree that Missouri's Blaine Gabbert is the top quarterback in the draft, but Kiper has him going fifth overall to Arizona and Newton being the next QB taken.
McShay, meanwhile, has Gabbert going third overall to Buffalo and then has Washington University's Jake Locker going eighth to Tennessee and two picks later Newton is selected. Kiper doesn't even have locker in the first round projections.
Kiper has Arkansas' Ryan Mallett going to Seattle at No. 25, while McShay has him going 16th to Jacksonville.
On a local note, Kiper has Maryland wide receiver Torrey Smith going 27th to Atlanta. McShay doesn't have him going in the first round.
You can get each analysts' thoughts at espn.com, Kiper's is here, and McShay's is here. But you have to have an ESPN Insider subscription to see them. Here's the rundown of their picks:

For Cam Newton's sake, I hope they don't draft him. The Redskins have proved to be a QB career killing machine. The kid's got skills, but he'll never get a decent chance in D.C.

That is a great point, Rick. Look at the Redskins first round picks over the last 15 years, and we've drafted the franchise quarterback a few times. As for me, I remember the last Auburn team beside Cam Newton's to go undefeated. They were 13-0, won the SEC and beat the Hokies in the Sugar Bowl. They had a good college RB named Cadillac Williams. Their QB was a tall kid, very smart and soft-spoken. He was the SEC's Player of the Year and finished 7th in the Heisman voting ahead of Aaron Rodgers. He was the 3rd quarterback taken in the draft and was set to move a veteran QB out of DC in the next year. His name? Jason Campbell. Had a pretty good year in Oakland this year too.

Ha ha! Deadskins looking for a "ooooo, new shiny thing"!!! When will they learn that only one or two seasons with a quarterback will not make the team better. No wonder they suck, they can't keep team members for more than a few years then they dispose of them.
