When a Maine Tea Party site offered D.C. travel advice to its members planning to attend Saturday's Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin rally at the Lincoln Memorial, they probably had no idea it'd be talked about all over the D.C.-area Twitterverse.

Their advice for the D.C. newbies included tips for dining, drinking and getting around town. Their advice:

If you are on the subway stay on the Red line between Union Station and Shady Grove, Maryland. If you are on the Blue or Orange line do not go past Eastern Market (Capitol Hill) toward the Potomac Avenue stop and beyond; stay in NW DC and points in Virginia. Do not use the Green line or the Yellow line. These rules are even more important at night. There is of course nothing wrong with many other areas; but you don't know where you are, so you should not explore them.

That bit of advice set off a tweetstorm that was less Right vs. Left and more District vs. Detractors. It quickly became a trending topic locally.

I first saw this pop up in a #WMATA search, when @smencicer tweeted around 11:30, "Tea partier offering travel advice for Glenn Beck's DC rally warns: don't take Metro green or yellow line!"

By noon, the post in question was found and tweeted. TBD's Arts Editor Andrew Beaujon tweeted, "Do not use the Green line or the Yellow line. These rules are...more important at night." A Tea Party guide to D.C. http://bit.ly/dzp1ep"

DCist soon highlighted the post, and enterprising Google mapper @lauraolin mapped out the "safe" places in D.C., according to the Tea Partiers guide.

From there, it was all up to the District Dwellers to defend their neighborhoods and WMATA lines on Twitter.

gosara: who knew dc was so unsafe?ha! gotta watch out for that south arl area! hahaha

Melisanthrope: Looking forward to hanging w/ other Tea Partiers this Saturday at the Restoring Honor rally. FTR, I'll be riding the dangerous Yellow line.

msherrard: Proud to live in a neighborhood that is apparently unsafe for tea partiers.

heyerinevans: The 70 would give them nightmares. they'll stick to the circulator. RT @shani_o: So where do Tea Partiers stand on buses?

SWinekaOS: Guess I won't run into tea partiers at the Nats game. It's on the green line.

DLind: FACT: Living on a Metro stop the Tea Partiers aren't afraid to visit makes me feel desperately unhip.
