D.C. and Maryland Elections: TBD's Primary Primer

Happy primary election day! Or, as voters in D.C. (and a few other nearby jurisdictions, for that matter) call it, Happy de facto Election Day!

If you still don't know whether you're registered to vote or where your precinct is located, check here if you live in D.C. and here if you live in Maryland (although be forewarned, the Maryland State Board of Elections website has been down off and on. Should those problems persist, try the University of Maryland's elections site, which can also tell you where your polling place is located). Virginia is not holding primaries today.

If you experience any problems voting on Tuesday, TBD wants to hear about them. We’re mapping the polling places experiencing problems on election day, but we can’t do it without your help.

Whether it’s long lines at your polling place to problems with voting machines, campaigns or ballots, please tell us and we’ll get it on the map. We have lots of ways for you to report the problems you find at the polls:

Be sure you include the polling location in your tip.

Why send in your tips? It helps us — and you — keep local elections fair and make sure everyone gets their chance to vote. Check the map before you go to vote and see if your polling place has been experiencing issues.

We're also wondering why you voted — or didn't — and encourage you to follow the conversation all day in a live chat.

You'll also notice many of TBD's reporters are deployed on special assignments today, as we keep our eyes and ears on polling places, last-minute campaigning, and of course, the eventual results (which wil begin popping up on our home page a few hours before polls close). Here's where you can find the latest from each of them (with the caveat that this deployment plan can and will likely change as the day progresses):

Sarah Larimer will be shadowing D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty most of the day. And look for her to be making the rounds of victory and/or defeat parties as day turns into night.

Kevin Robillard, aka The Facts Machine, is stationed at the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics, monitoring any reports of irregularities as well as waiting on those early numbers as the evening wears on.

Elahe Izadi will be out in Prince George's County, keeping tabs on the outcome of the county executive race.

Rebecca A. Cooper will checking out precincts in D.C.'s battleground Ward 4, looking to see whether things get tense as D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty's own neighbors turn out to vote for — or, more importantly — against him.

Jenny Rogers will be embedded with brash Fenty booster Ron Moten. You know you won't want to miss any of those lists.

Sommer Mathis will spend the day following the surprisingly tight race between at-large D.C. Councilmember Phil Mendelson and Shadow Sen. Michael D. Brown — who, in case you still haven't heard, is not the same person as D.C. Councilmember Michael A. Brown.

And the rest of TBD's editorial team will be filling in the gaps all over the place, so stay tuned to that home page for the latest and greatest.
