Rock the vote on Foursquare this Election Day

UPDATE, NOV. 4, 11:42 AM: A big thanks is due to everyone who participated in our little Foursquare experiment Tuesday. It was interesting to watch local voters check-in - and some were open anough to say who they voted for, too.

At the Virginia venue, 21 people checked in after voting and two left tips about their votes.

Those who checked in at both the Maryland and D.C. election venues managed to snag a Swarm badge (if they didn't have one already). D.C. had 66 people check in, Maryland had 51 check-ins and six tips about who they voted for in the governor's race. Of course, everyone was a winner who checked in to say they voted - as they all got Foursquare's custom "I Voted" badge.Foursquare had set up a special site to track these voter check-ins as a measure of turnout. Very cool.

Admittedly, I wasn't sure what we'd do with this info, but it did give us a little insight as to how the voting flow was going amongst those who follow TBD. Next time around, we'll think up something better - and get venues that'll be easier to find on mobile apps. If you have suggestions, let me know.

Thanks, again.

ORIGINAL:

When you cast your ballot in D.C., Virginia or Maryland Tuesday, proudly proclaim your participation in democracy with a mere Foursquare check-in.

If you have a Foursquare account, check in to one of our special election venues depending on where you live and partake in TBD's experimental Foursquare "poll."

Search for Virginia Congressional Elections 2010, Maryland Governor Election 2010 or D.C. Election 2010 on your smartphone app or on your mobile browser at foursquare.com/mobile.

Check in after you vote and, if you feel comfortable doing so, submit a tip to that venue telling us who you voted for and why. This way, you can see how many people on Foursquare are voting in your local races and how those votes are leaning.

This won't be any kind of official poll, but just a fun experiment for TBD and Foursquare junkies around the D.C. area and, if enough people check-in, you just might be able to earn a Swarm badge (if you haven't gotten one yet).

TBD will be adding tips and shouts on Foursquare to these venues with news on those races throughout the evening, but you have to follow us on Foursquare to see them. Check us out at foursquare.com/TBD.
