Do's and Don'ts:

Don't play games with your children when it comes to breaking the law ... been there, done that. He may end up being arrested. The experience is an eye opener. At the very least, your child will learn that you are right. And that is what they will come back to tell you years later.

Say This:

Either you are smoking pot, or your friends are smoking pot around you. Either way, it's unacceptable. It's against the law, and you're breaking the law by doing it, or just being with friends who are doing it. It must stop immediately. If you are caught doing it and jailed, I will not come bail you out. That's how serious it is to us and how you must stop now.

I've been there too and I agree the stronger you come out in the beginning, the better chance you have of stopping it .

I work with juvenile delinquents, have two sons and smoked a little dope in my day. Your answer is very close to what I did say. My kids have always known where we stand on these issues, we don't condem anyone who smokes it but the reality is just as you said. I also teach them about the "give a sh__t" factor. Most people I know who kept smoking a lot of dope never did achieve much except hangin out and gettin high. Of course, there are exceptions, but there are plenty of local examples to point to.
