Tell your friend "You have lived a good life. You have made a difference to everyone you touch, everyday! Today you start a new phase in your life. It will be filled with uncertainty. This is part of life. God's plan??? If your religious, you have to follow your own faith. Just know that everyone's life you have touch; sends you love and the wish for as little suffering as possible. You know I LOVE YOU! Let me know if I can do anything for you. I would like to be your advocate until you leave the hospital!!

This is what I told my roommate; who had his left leg removed due to complications from diabetes; who was also a Mormon and very religious.
