Do's and Don'ts:

Say This:

I have not been asked that particular question, however, my teenage son did ask if I had ever done anything illegal and not been caught, and, if I had, would I tell him about it.

I answered that I could not say if I had done anything illegal and not been caught, and that, honestly, there were things in my life that no one will ever know about.

I did tell him that there were things that I had done that I will tell him about when the time is appropriate.

I do not know that I handled this the best way, however, my son has no desire to drink or do drugs since he considers his brain to be his best asset and does not want to do anything to harm it. Maybe I have done a good job educating my kids on the dangers, and maybe I am gullible.

Be honest. My answer was that I had but that getting high didn't really do anything for me. Lucky for me that both my kids are high school athletes so I could emphasize the health risks of smoking pot, plus the fact that it is against the law. The honest answer is always the best one because they will in most cases find out the truth eventually.
