Do's and Don'ts:

Do try and engage your child in a discussion.

Don't freak out, stay calm. It is important that your teen knows that he or she can talk to you. Hopefully, this will open the door so that you can talk about the risks pot and be there if they need your support.

Say This:

John, I want to talk to you about something I've noticed. Recently, I've been smelling pot on our clothes. I know that a lot of kids your age are smoking pot and that you may be under pressure to do it, too. But I hope they realize it can cause problems. Pot can make it hard to focus and concentrate, it can also cause lung problems. Most people don't realize that pot has a lot of cancer causing chemicals in it. I want you to know that if you have any questions about drugs, or if you feel you need them to make you feel better, that you can talk to me. I love you and care about you and hope that you never feel the need to use them.
