Do's and Don'ts:

Don't present the idea as a mistake on their part. The idea is to get them to go, not to point out that they've been irresponsible.

Do offer to go along. Sometimes fear is a big factor.

Do be reassuring - some people don't go to the doctor for fear of bad news.

Say This:

It's been a long time since you had a regular physical. I want to be with you for a long, long time and it's important to me that you stay healthy and happy. May I make an appointment for you with Dr. Brown? I can go with you if you'd like some company.
