What would you say in this situation?
How do I stop being my mom's sole confidant? I want her to go see a therapist.

Do's and Don'ts:

Don't tell her she's wrong, neurotic, being silly, etc. or any other judgmental terms.

Do tell her why you don't want to hear anything more on this particular topic and why a neutral party would serve her better

Say This:

"Mom, it upsets me to hear you complain about Dad/your sister/ the neighbors so often. It's him/her/them you need to tell this to, not to me. If you feel you can't speak directly to them, then I really suggest you speak to a counselor on how to deal with this ongoing problem."

or

"Mom, it really upsets me when you talk like this. I don't know what to do to help you. Please consider seeing a counselor. I can refer you to someone whom I hear is excellent. I think it would be easier on both of us."
