What would you say in this situation?
I need to explain in an interview that I have the skills but no "professional" experience.

Say This:

Though I have no professional work experience, my life skills are valuable in the areas of, being focused, dedicated, having integrity and determination.

I recommend NOT saying you have no professional experience, unless asked directly what work experience do you have as a (blank). Generally an interviewer will ask, 'what sort of experience do you have as a (job title).... or with (skills).... ' or 'have you done X before?' Any of these questions may be answered by saying how you have the experience and your level of skill in it. Say 'no experience' in a response... and that is exactly what an interview will write in his/her notes.
