What would you say in this situation?
My micro-managing boss is younger and has less experience than I do. I need to say something.

Do's and Don'ts:

Set the stage for minimizing micro-management by suggesting weekly meetings to review activities and discuss the coming week's goals.

Remember it's your job to adapt to the boss, not the other way around.

Don't approach the situation with a sense of entitlement.

Do understand that the relationship is probably tough for both of you.

Don't think you can change or fix the boss.

Focus your energy on how you can be of more value to the firm.

Observe what other co-workers who have a good relationship with the boss do.

Say This:

"I have been thinking about some ways I can be of more value to the firm, and want to get your feedback. For example, I would like to send you a project recap report in Excel each week, and would like your thoughts on what I'm seeing as the key priorities. And, would you mind noting in the timeline column your thoughts on my key milestone projections? Secondly, I would like to meet with you once a month to review our goals, and expectations to ensure I am on the same page with you. Does that work for you?"
