For those who love the Irish culture . . . May I recommend listening to Gaelic Storm. They, themselves are a band - not...

I do love Gaelic Storm ... they´re fantastic, I can´t stop from hearing almost every day. May I add to your list ?

Try LUNASA ... they´re not "as fast" as Gaelic, but they´re very rich, very traditional, and a very harmonic band.

Hi ! I may have some material to contribute to the discussion. None of them are very famous movies, and not particularly gifted with Irish landscapes I so crave, like shown in “Waking Ned Devine”.

There´s this movie, “The Brylcreem Boys”, which I have to confess I don´t like much. It depicts a World War II POW camp in Ireland, where captured Germans, British and American soldiers/sailors/pilots had to live, as a part of an effort from the Irish Gov. to remain strictly neutral. The bright side of this movie (my opinion) is the role of this Irishwoman, played by Jean Butler, who was leading dancer of Riverdance around 1996. See in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115770/.

There´s another one, the kind I enjoy a great deal: “The Closer you Get”, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218112/. Irish lads send an ad to the Miami Herald inviting fit and enticing American women, between the ages of 20 and 21, to live in their isolated Donegal village. The whole town knows about the ad, and it sharpens everyone's sense of the opportunities for happiness already at hand.

Love this thread, as I've spent a lot of time in Ireland with my son's former nanny and her family. For modern day Ireland, I loved Once and am about to re-watch The Commitments.

And thanks for the recommendations, now I am going to add Roan Inish to my Netflix list, it's been so long since I saw that, as well as The Closer You Get [which has been re-named American Women, btw].
