I just had a fascinating, horrible idea,...
You all know that if you do a search on the Internet for "Intelligent Design," you come up with thousands upon thousands of hits on this unsupported pseudo-scientific attempt to shoehorn the Biblical concept of Creationism into our science classes.
The Creationists doing this think it's a clever attempt to carry forward their agenda to have somewhat fundamentalist Christian beliefs taught in secular schools--schools supported by taxes that their churches don't actually have to pay!
What I always found interesting is that none of the Creationists pushing this ID concept actually believe it. They posit some undetectable super-powerful "aliens" that seeded engineered life on earth (of course, anyone who's read more than a few sci-fi books, especially ones by Arthur C Clarke, will recognize that the concept of the Judeo-Christian-Muslim "God" is pretty much identical to this concept of undetectable super-powerful "aliens" ), but they do it with a knowing "wink-wink" to each other--they don't really mean undetectable super-powerful "aliens"--they mean God. I guess they don't think that the rest of us will figure that one out.
Personally, I'm concerned that they don't recognize that it weakens the very concept of an all-knowing, all-powerful God that created Man from the dust of the earth--because if ID is to be believed (ignoring, for the moment, that it isn't), then God didn't do it, did He? Undetectable super-powerful "aliens" did it!
Which brings me to the topic at hand...
What if this "God" didn't create the universe, either? What if the same undetectable super-powerful "aliens" that supposedly might have created humans on the earth also created the universe?
I mean, which is more believable--that the universe just sprung, unbidden, from out of the nothingness, or that undetectable super-powerful "aliens" maybe did it? Maybe they went back in time to 14.5 billion years ago, adjusted all the parameters just right, and hit some great green "Go" button?
What if they went back in time from a point 5 billion years in our future? What if these undetectable super-powerful "aliens"...are us?
Personally, I think that ID and IC should be taught in schools, AS FINAL PROOF THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR A GOD TO HAVE CREATED ANYTHING!
