If you really want a wake-up call, the next time you book online if you look closely you'll find the type or name brand of the aircraft you'll be booked on. Type that information into your search engine and you'll discover the age and the country in which it was manufactured...scary.

There is a wide gulf between first class and coach, both in the cost and in the way you're treated and how you feel when you land. When I became "important enough", I began to demand the upgrade and then I had enough miles with Platinum status that I was automatically upgraded.
I recently flew to Italy for work last minute (employer paid) and the ticket round trip was just over $14,000.00. I thought it was obscene, but the employer paid it without blinking, and they wanted me fresh and able to work when I landed.
Now, I'd rather have $14,000 extra in my pocket and suffer with the flight squeezed in between two fat people - but unfortunately that's now how it works.

Excellent idea. Of course, it makes too much sense to be implemented.
