Capella's headquarters are directly across the street from my office. My company actually encourages employees to pursue degrees from them, and everyone I've spoken to that has taken classes from Capella has been VERY impressed with the education they've received, the structure of the programs, and, of course, the flexibility offered by the 'online' education. I know they have a very strong reputation when it comes to distance learning, better than many, in fact.

I haven't actually begun a program with them, but have looked into two different Masters degrees. I'm impressed by the courses that they offer.

I'd be inclined to say, based on feedback that I've gotten from those who have tried it out, and from my company's endorsement, that you'll be in good hands and that it will be worth your investment.

Contact the counselors' licensing board in your state. In California it's The Board of Behavioral Examiners in charge of social workers, psychologists, and marriage and family therapists in Sacramento. Ask your licensing board if a Capella degree is recognized. That's the key question. I got a distance learning degree many years ago from The University Without Walls, recommended by the BBSE. I wouldn't ever have heard of them otherwise. I was in my early 40's when I went back for my Master's Degree. It took me 6+ months instead of a regular 2 year program. I found it very worth the time and money.
