Hell Bushit is spying on us, so why not our boss.

I worked for 30yrs in entry level jobs, mostly retail. And big or little companies looked at you as theirs, so they did as they pleased no matter if it was ethical or not.

In grocery for example there is a clock/timer in the computer to tell how fast that you are checking. So they would post it weekly to encourage you not to embarass yourself and get your checking up. Then the cameras above the checkstands that can pick up what you could write on your hand. And if that isn't enough they send in "shoppers" to make sure that you are doing everything that they want you to and more.

But they use to have a customer service booth window. A man walked up and pulled a gun on the clerk in the booth with the safe.

Unfortunately a teenage bagger who had just finished his shift walked up to the booth window to have the clerk call his mother to pick him up,as he had done every night. The man with the gun was startled and shot the kid in the abdomen.

The kid survived the gunshot, but not without suffering for sometime afterwards.

The company video camera was on the booth clerk and did not pick up the man with the gun.

I don't shop Radio Shack, Tandy Corporation, because not only did they use a polygraph test on applicants, but throughout your career with them they randomly give you a polygraph.

Questions like: Do you know anyone that you work with that uses drugs?

If they want me to be a clerk and a snitch then they are going to pay me two salaries.

Another time at one of the grocery stores that I worked at a large amount of money was stolen out of the register that I and another woman had worked on. Strange as it sounds, Safeway does not use cash control in any of their stores. You all work out of the same drawers.

Anyway when the boss called me in to ask about that day and told me what had happened; he also shared that a manager can adjust the time that the transaction was performed. The boss made me feel that I wasn't involved. But nevertheless he had to put me on a register where the camera was directly above. So I was on Express everyday for weeks.

But I know that when you don't steal, you don't worry, because there is nothing to worry about.

I was warned by a co-worker not to call her or text her on my cell as the company was watching my conversations. I'm not sure that was true...might be just paranoia.

My company watches my every move I make, email, webpages, I have a camera behind my back, my phone calls are subject to monitoring because I'm a call center rep. They know how many times I go in and out of every single door.

It's just a fact of life in a call center. I just deal with it. If I worried about it I would go nuts.

At any company subject to Sarbannes Oxley the employees can expect all email to be archived. Everything sent or received. All web pages accessed are archived.

When you walk in and when you exit is archived.

Happily my company does not track me by camera in the office but since I'm required to have my badge on they could be tracking that.

In the US cities are adding cameras everywhere. While its not as pervasive as the UK it is still something to consider.

When are we private? At home, maybe...or maybe not.

I think Big Brother is always watching us...I guess w/our company emails they have a "right". I work in a small insurance office. So to keep things interesting I always shoot out one that's pure fiction!!! Makes me feel better if he is.... Oh the stuff you can make up! :-) I'm laughing as I type...
