It wouldn't be a party with out a cat with two cases of champagne, a case of TP, and two cases of Depends.

I would like to come as long as Jack Z and his fork, knife and gun aren't allowed. He has a thing for fresh pussy.

Okay now that we are talking disasters.

I live in the house that I grew up in...its 7mos older then me, so we are the original owners.

Well in the early 70s, while I was finishing up high school, the water mains broke under our lawn 13 times before they finally ran a second pipe line parallel to the original.

Most of them broke in the wee hours of the morning when no one was using the water. And when it broke, because of the time, it would take an hour for the water dept to get out here and start fixing it. So that meant 4-6hrs of no water. No water means no flushing.

So my father started saving gallon Clorox bottles and filling them with water. When he reached 30 bottles, I started throwing some out. Eventually the pipes stopped breaking and I threw out all of the Clorox bottles. Now I could use some for an emergency.

But having lived in Northern California all of my life, I do appreciate all the preparedness that the cities, counties and state does. Like all the costly and timely retrofitting.

In 1989 when Loma Prieta hit, one freeway in Oakland collapsed on top of itself killing a lot of people. They heeded the lessons learned and have corrected most bridges and freeways. Many structures were closed and fixed or torn down and rebuilt.

But even though the SF Oakland Bay Bridge had a section come down on the lower section....I was still impressed at how well the bridge really did. The lower section did not collapse when the upper slammed into it.

I'm also grateful to California government when I see earthquakes in other areas of the world that can't withstand the same caliber of earthquake. The laws have made buildings, homes and other structures here able to withstand earthquakes.

Anita, I am also grateful for structures and buildings that are now up to code in the disaster arena you speak of.

I need to mention that we received a flyer this very week from a store we do not patronize.

They had an amazing assortment of canned goods that cost us normally from $.39-$.49 per can at our regular discounted (Bring your own bag and pack store) Aldi's. They offered it at a loss leader of 3/$1.00

Savings was $20.64 and my pantry is restocked with needed goods that we made sure was dated good to Dec. 2010. I will spend the day reorganizing my pantry and my cupboards.
