What do you think?
You see a puddle on the supermarket floor. You do nothing to clean it up except bring attention to it? Is there value in that?
You see a woman being raped and you scream bloody murder. You dont raise a finger against the offender. You dont call the police. You dont even give the woman a blanket. Is there value in that?
You see big problems in the country that you live. You make provocative statements in various arenas, and as a result discussion ensues. You dont vote, you dont write to legislators, you dont move away. You just bitch your brains out. Is there value in that?
I say, most definitely. Infact, the bitching you do brings more attention and maybe even action than any silent vote or outraged letter will ever do.
Do you agree?

Hopefully the action you refer to will include yours. You certainly are not shy about flattering yourself but I am confused. Are you saying that you saw someone raped and walked away? Maybe we should be defining the word coward.

No need to be nasty, hon.

I am starting a new thread. It is a break off from Love it or Leave it. Several responses suggested to vote or write to legislators. I am counter-suggesting that there is value in raising a discussion. Please, agree or disagree, but dont call me names, dear.

I agree! Sometimes that is all you can do and it has value but you should also do as many other things as possible.

Yes I do agree. Our country was founded on bitching (taxation without representation is bitching).
Bitch! Vote! Write letters to elected officials and rewrite when they don't respond. And sometimes we have to take the law into our own hands.
Sadly, this past week some dirtbag tried to commit some kind of crime (carjack, steal a woman'd prescription drugs -- I can 't remember) a young man takes off on his motorcycle after the dirtbag only to crash into a SUV and die. .In perfect hindsight he and his family would ahve been better off if he just called the cops.

So far, this looks like an attempt to justify failure to participate directly in government.
You have a constitutional right to bitch about government but doing so without voting is a bit like pissing into a gail. You get wet and look stupid.

Course there always is the perspective that failing to vote by others simply gives my vote more weight so.....? I have watched with great interest the enthusiasm exhibited by people who have just won their right to vote and the large percentage of those people who then vote as they relish this opportunity. I have also read with interest the low voting turnouts in the United States and how many of those who don't vote say it is the government's fault. Of course it would be <sarcasm>! Perhaps those who don't vote for one reason or another would benefit from living in a part of the world where that opportunity is denied to them. My quess is they would never skip voting again.

But Fromzy, Failure, like success is relative.
Is it better to accept a little success over complete failure?
If you're not going to go all the way (or the way others think you should go), should you just 'shut up and GET OUT of the way?
Kind Regards Always!

First, it isn't my job to clean up spills in supermarkets, they have employees to do that. So, there is value in alerting someone to it so other shoppers won't slip or fall.
Second, if I (me personally) see a woman being raped I would indeed intervene, and call the police and stay with her until they got there.
Third, I do vote, call, write and contact my representatives about issues. But "bitching", as you say, isn't the best avenue to get things done. Voice your thoughts and opinions, but be civil. Pissing others off doesn't work for your benefit or the thing you represent or want to be changed.
And one more thought. If you (or anyone else) doesn't take the time to vote, call, etc..you have no "bitch" as far as I'm concerned. As the saying goes,"Lead, follow, or get out of the way."
Anyway, thats my 2 cents worth, right, wrong or otherwise.
