Yes, we ARE all bananas....

Witchy

I just got back from the post office, where I bought some stamps. When I came in I was the only customer (small town). There are two women (of a 'certain age') who work there. I approched the short one and asked for 1/2 a dozen stamps (don't do much "snail mail" these days and if I get too many stamps I loose them before they're used). She rang me up and said "$5.04" as she turned to take the 6 stamps from the taller lady. She looked and said "1/2 dozen is 12", there was a pause as she caught the bemused looks on our faces. A longer pause ensued as we all adopted the dazed and confused expressions of 50ish ladies whose trains of thought have suddenly jumped the tracks and gone bumping off down some gravel road. Then we burst into the sort of laughter that causes you to lean against the counters with tears streaming down your faces.

At that point a much younger woman came in, looked at us with that look that says, "What's this bunch of kooks up to?". We snapped to and I bought 6 stamps for $2.52. We were, however, utterly unable to surpress a bunch of snorting and giggling.

How was your day?

What a wonderfully refreshing post. Reminds me of a time I was adding minutes to my AT&T prepaid phone card at Wal Mart. Told cashier I wanted to add 2 hours of phone time to my card and got an absolutely blank look, after which she said how many minutes is 2 hours. Thought that was somewhat odd, at least at the time.

Another day was checking out (again at Wal Mart) with only one of a 2 for $5.00 merchandise item. This cashier didn't know what 1/2 of $5.00 was.

Yeah, it is nice to occasionally find that I am not the ony person who has 'daft' moments (although I felt like a right idiot for having to stop and think about it when she said that). Refreshing to have a little comradery on the path to losing my mind ;-D

ps...it's not that we do not know it is that we cannot think! ;->

pps...I'm getting a Tshirt "hot flashes have (half) baked my brain!"
