Jayvee, your reflection on Lincoln is wonderful! Thank you for mentioning this true American Hero. The more I study hi...

Honeychile, I suggest you study Abe a little harder. You want the full context, you should have read the link to the letter. Since you didn't, here is the whole paragraph:

I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them. If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.

Oh, man, my self righteousness is showing again? That little rascal just won't stay in the closet. What's a person to do??

Hey, I thought there HAS been a debate. Surely I didn't stop that from happening? Part of a debate is "the other side of the argument." You have a wonderful way of slapping someone, and then acting all justified and all. My daughter & the rest of her flight have access to the same internet propaganda as you, plus more, so indicating that she is too stupid to think for herself is preposterous & insulting, WM.

The topic is "America, Love It or Leave It." Who better to address the issue than those defending America. I'll be sure to pass on your feelings about our troops' ability to think independently, though. I'm sure they'll appreciate the support.

And I think TIE is a big girl and can take up for herself, WM. She has done so on many occasions.

Hi, TIE!!

Just so you know, military serving on active duty are better informed than at least 80% of all Americans about issues concerning themselves. They are certainly better informed than a goodly number of TBDers.

Try reading the Stars and Stripes for a while: http://www.stripes.com/

I also suggest you familiarize yourself with military blogs, for example from here http://www.military.com/blog and here http://www.military.com/blog

But it's ok because, as we say here on the south, you are special.

Okay, then, TIE, don't go to Israel or Saudi Arabia, & parts of Palestine (any place that likes America & Americans).

Although I have not been in the military, I have been deployed with them. So, you think Stars and Stripes is to inform? It seemed to always have a definite "slant" to me. And, there is a lot of peer pressure in any "group" to think and act in a certain way. It doesn't seem to me that the military would be any different. There is a definite "agenda".much the same as there is with you Fromz But, as YOU say: "You are special". As far as the military being better informed than 80% of US citizens: I don't know about the percentage. But, I wouldn't argue THAT point.

WM, you're fighting a losing battle here, son. I talk with my daughter almost every evening. She says, "Gee, mom, don't you ever watch the news or read a newspaper?" They have TVs & computers where they live, just like us . . . they have electricity & plumbing, too!! LOL Now, granted, the guys shooting the guns may not be watching CNN . . . : - )

You are right, though, they are taught to think as a unit & obey commands without questioning them. Fromz gave you those internet sites as an example of what they have available, but like I said, they all have Google features on their computers. : - O

Yes, yes, and of course those who have not read teh Stripes reqularly shoudl take your word it is slanted.

But then again, how does someone who posts

denial = illegal

and when asked to prove the act in question was illegal, denies ever having said it was.

The worst kind of polityician, like hillary and bill, their words have no meaning. Only what is cinvenient at the moment.
