Rhia,
Thanks for not humiliating me with your knowledge. I is obvious you "could". Thanks for sparing me. :-...
OK, get your throwing knives ready... I love interior paint!!! I have painted every room but two in my house, some more than once but mostly once. Each room is a different color. The only reason why those two rooms have not been painted is I have had trouble picking proper colors for them... for 13 years.
After my ex moved out, I started tearing out anything that reminded me too much of him.
Bathroom wallpaper went first. It was a sore note since I bought this house anyway, and every time I sat in there... I thought of him. OUT DAMMIT!!! I painted it a very fair pink, texturized and marblized it. Very dainty ladies room.
Then, I liked how much that came out, I decided to take out the once-hip kitchen paper that had started to remind me of years-old cigarette smoke stain, and see what the plaster looked like under it. Oh yah, the contractor had papered right over holes, bad places, you name it. Never buy a house with WALLPAPER in it. NEVER. So I learned to fix holes. Painted it. Deeeelight! Bright bright yellow like the sun in the sky, love it.
Then I took a break to do some other repairs and projects. When I came up for air, I finally made the decision on the color for the living room. It's a nice fresh dark blue-green color below the chair rail and on the accent wall. Above the chair rail is a nice minty blue-green, very bright and chose to make my artwork POP. Which, it really does.
Considering a fair blue for the guest room to pick up the colors in the quilt. Considering some variation of off-white for the old office. It needs light in there....
Exterior paint? Now you are talking about a chore. I don't think I will tackle that one myself.....

My wife purchased one of his kits as a present for moi. It was great and fun, and not as easy as he makes it look. It can also be a bit expensive as canvases are not cheap. Go to any decent craft store and you should be able to find a painting kit. Then purchase small canvases to start and don't give up if it doesn't come out right the first time. It also helps if you have a room you can dedicate to painting (floor coverings, drying and storage shelves). I used the kitchen table which didn't work out too well as the kids hated mineral spirits in their oatmeal--even the odorless kind.

Women's arms are anatomically designed for holding babies. They are not designed for painting ceilings. The two are apparently mutually exclusive.
So find or hire a nice male to paint your ceiling and enjoy your vodka.
Or better yet, have a Tom Sawyer party (my parents always did when they needed wallpapering done). Invite a bunch of friends over, telling them what the deal is. Provide food and beverage and supplies, and the painting will be done in no time, and with very little mess.

As a teenager I used to paint the kitchen and bedrooms and didn't mind, but now I'm too much of a perfectionist. I hate painting. I get it all over me and everything else that is not supposed to have paint on it. I vote for hiring someone else to do it.

The worst problem I ever had with a painting job was when my grandmother wanted me to paint one of her bathrooms and being a bit frugal for no reason. She wanted it painted with a plain flat latex. Oh boy. Can we say wait for it to peel off the walls?
I tried to tell her she was the one who taught me never flat in the bathroom or kitchen....
So, in a couple years it was all my fault that it was peeling off the walls. So, I sanded the walls (I wasn't going to paint a third time) before I painted with the right stuff.

The "bumpy stuff" on the ceiling your talking about scraping off or already have scraped off..Take note, many houses built before 1979 or so used asbestos in the spray textured ceilings. While it is harmless because its incapsulated in the paint, when scraping it its the airborne particles that will do the damage, it is best if unsure to leave it there or have it tested.

We have popcorn ceilings and our house was built in 1976. We've just decided not to sell it. The info about the asbestos was timely. We'll be doing some minor fixing up and removing the popcorn was one of the options we were considering.
