Hydrocarbon Resources
Are They Sufficient To Our Planet In The Coming Thirty Years ?
In an OPEC meeting I asked His Excellency the president of the organization the following question : Without an international policy , without a sophisticated technology of production , without streamline regulations and energy legislations fostering energy efficiency and growth in renewables , in a modern world with increasing in energy demand especially in developing countries , do you think no mater how much OPEC would increase the level of its production ,would this solve the problem in the coming years ? Unfortunately I got no answer .
To understand the world evolution in energy consumption let us simplify the story as this : My grandmother , her use of energy depended on biomass in cooking , washing, warming , and a little of kerosene and vegetable oil in lighting . My mother has used smaller quantity of biomass and greater quantity of kerosene and little of LNG and letter small amount of electricity . However , my wife never used biomass at all , and she uses gasoline in her transportation , LNG and electricity in cooking , air conditioning and other house uses and in great amount all day round . Concerning my daughter my suggestion about her use of energy would not be strictly exact in a world evolving fast in modernization .
The increase in energy demand takes place dramitacly in China , India , all over Asia , Africa and south and Latin America . No one can stop this. In a small world the microbe of seeking a modern and prosperous life is going to spread sooner or latter all over the world . Energy resources are the essential elements needed for this and they are limited .
The emergence of hydrocarbons and their occupations of the front position instead of coal , has the basic role in advancement of humanity and its prosperity . The hydrocarbon , this giant weapon, regardless of the range of studies and inventions of alternative sources of energy will remain the principal energy source during the coming decades .
The important question I ask : Hydrocarbon resources, are they sufficient to our planet in the coming thirty years ?
