Pickle - anybody that still believes in Jimmy Carter is so far out of touch with reality that it's hopeless to try and have a discussion with. Long live Obama, the only person we could elect that has a chance of making J Carter seem like he was a good president.

Yes Pickle, you recently praised Carter for something in another discussion. I do believe in Ronald Ray Gun and I also believe in John F Kennedy. You might remember him if you are old enough, he was the last democrat who understood that tax cuts are good for the economy. Much of RayGun's program was based on JFK ideals. Since JFK, the democrats have not nominated a decent candidate and their actions in congress would make a great comedy show, they're funny as the three stooges. Only problem with their comedy show is that they fund it with taxpayer dollars. Gas and energy prices are out of whack because the dems have blocked drilling on our documented reserves, blocked the building of refineries, and blocked nuclear power generation. Even the wimpy French get almost all of their electricity from nuclear generation. The dems have blocked us from drilling offshore Florida so the Chinese decided to go for it. If the dreaded spill comes, we will be the ones who end up cleaning it up, but they got the oil. If you listened to the news yesterday, Mr Wonderful Obama was asked about the high gas prices and his answer was that he would have preferred the adjustment to have happened a little slower. Not that he wished the prices were lower, only that they rose to fast. The dems are supposed to be for the little man. Well, many little men are also poor men, they can't afford to go out and buy a new 30mpg car, many little men have large families, they need a big vehicle to haul the family around. The RICH REPUBLICANS can afford to go out and buy a new 40 grand 35mpg vehicle and the little man is left with the gas hog trade in that the little man can afford. The dems answer to choking oil production is to haul oil executives before their meaningless committes to grill them then tell the little man that they are going to tax the windfall profits of the oil companies. They don't tell the little man that they (the government) make twice as much on a gallon of gas as the oil company. They also don't explain to the little man that huge amounts of the oil company profits go to the shareholders, many of which are pension funds of working little men Americans. Take the oil companies profits and you screw the pension funds of our police, firefighters, teachers, and many other Americans.

riverboy, you are right I did mention long ago that Carter had CAFE standards in place that would have made us energy independent by 1986 but Reagan repealed them. Even though I do not like the tax and spend as you call it, it is somehow better than borrow and spend that the Republicans have used for the last 28 years, take out 8 for Clinton. I will not discuss this anymore. It is clear that your mind is made up and you will not be swayed by the facts. have a nice day.
