Hi RebeccaGA,
It sounds like you are living the dream I hope to one day. I didn't grow up with horses but hoping to make up for it before I am too old. I still don't have one of my own but I have found some great friends locally who let me ride with them and their horses. I am still learning to ride and do ground work and far from a "horseman" but working on it.
I hope you have enjoyed the spring on the riding trails.
Michael

I own some acreage in Central Arkansas and have the privilege to look out my bedroom window and see my arab gelding, my paint mare and my mini horse grazing underneath the oak trees. I try to keep that image in my head when I'm cleaning stalls, carrying hay and sweating in the hay field! Horses are better than therapists and have been my anchor when times are challenging. Everyone at my job thinks I'm nuts to get up at 4:30 in the AM and clean stalls, spend my weekends (and money) at horse shows and work two jobs to support my horse habit. With the kids gone, I think all I do is sooo worth it!
Leaving this week for a 5 day run of horse shows in Ft. Worth and that is my idea of a great vacation!
thanks for the thread, it is nice to find people as passionate about it as I am.

I'm in Michael's boat as far as loving horses all my life but never owning one. I feel a little like Mr. Chips, because even though I've never had the pleasure of calling a horse my own, I've had a thousand equine children.
I've ridden and mucked out stalls for anyone and everyone since I was a kid, and like Pamela have been around and worked with just about every kind of horse.
I started out as a saddleseat rider with American Saddlebreds, Morgans, and Arabians and ended up in dressage, riding mostly Trakehners, Hanoverians, and other warmbloods. I did a bit of eventing, but ultimately couldn't take the danger to the horse.
I'm not able to ride at the moment because of ill health, and there are no stables near me; but, I still have the smell of warm horses' breath in my nostrils and dream about how a horse feels the first time he/she goes round under you. Ahhhhhhh, the joy of it all!
Pamela--Smokey is one smokin' hot baby! It must have broken your heart to see him go. Here's hopin' your husband will lose interest in the boat.
Teddybear, it sounds to me like you aren't selfish on any account. Your love for your Belgians is palpable--they are such willing, loving, open-hearted "people." Cece was right that it sounds like you've found them a top-flight home.
And Rebecca, Jesse and Beau look as happy as happy can be. What a wonderful sight from your window and how fabulous to be living the life of your dreams!
I'm looking forward to hearing more about the group's life with horses--and Michael, keep it up. It's worth every sore muscle and bruised seat bone!
