Hi Jon and all... I just had to show you all our volcano - close to Sitka.!

Sitka is a very beautiful little town located on Baranof Island. I have been living here since 1997, after spending 5 years in Northern California. I am originally from South Africa. I love Sitka. Alaska is truly the last frontier, and I feel privileged to be living here.

Hello Debi ... good hearing from you. My family lived in Sitka when I was a small boy ... I attended kindergarten there! That was before the bridge from Mt. Edgecomb to Sitka. We lived at Mt. Edgecomb, actually, and I remember picking abalone on the beach there ... back when there were abalone still there to be harvested. You're right, it's a magic place. Hello Debi ... as you know, it takes a little effort to visit Sitka since one cannot drive there: You take the ferry or fly in. It is over 700 miles from where I live so I don't get there often Petersberg, Wrangell, Skagway, Haines and other Southeast towns all have their special charm ... I agree Sitka is special. No wonder it was the Capital of Russian Alaska before the Americans bought it.
