Well SailorPaul, I love a warm smooth voice that takes over my body like the water of a soothing bath.
I can't speak for most women, but for me it is not a deepness of voice that counts but the richness of content with a slightly lusty quality to the delivery. Nothing slick, just sincere. That's what works best for me.

But to be honest, usually in great phone sex, the orgasms take over and let's just say I'm rather vocal, so that usually gets my phone partner where he needs to go.
Not an expert on the subject, but when i have taken part, it helps to have both parties involved. One sided conversations are more uncomfortable than erotic. I love telling stories and taking the lead, but when there is silence on the other end - well, it's just creepy. On a particularly wonderful call, the woman i was speaking with would hold the phone down by her hand - "hearing" the sounds of her action was quite inspirational and very sexy.
