Prior to this past year, my only practical experience with the works of Thomas Hardy was having seen Roman Polanski's movie Tess of the D'Urbervilles years ago.
I know lots of people read Hardy as students, but somehow I escaped that. Honestly, if I'd had to read his novels as a student I wouldn't have appreciated them at all. But at the age of 47 I've just completed reading Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure (my favorite). I'm about the start The Mayor of Casterbridge.
Any other fans of Thomas Hardy out there?
