In my mind, with thanks to Marie Satz for beginning this string, beaches and tide water areas, wherever they may be, are genuinely sacred places ... likely they are the source/beginning places of life itself ...

I haven't had the opportunity to travel much at all, but it has become tradition to visit the rocky coast of Maine each year, always in August when the water is bearable (brrrrrr). These are from the Old Orchard Beach area/Point Pleasant as well...I think that's the name of it.

I've been to a lot of beaches, different types of beaches, in a lot of different places, and I can say almost always when leaving "that was my favorite beach." If we had past lives, mine was a shorebird or something like that. I need to be close by the water. I am compelled.

Jon, I had the privilege to walk some of Alaska's sandy shores last summer. It was nonetheless spellbinding.

What's your favorite beach?
