Agreed, most homeless don't want to be there, or have no other choice, unless we have had to walk in there shoes we should never judge them. Gary my best friend for the last 10 year was at 1 point in his life homeless. His pay back for the many hands up he had recieved was to take homeless into our home for a night give them a hot shower, some clean clothes, a few bucks, and a safe night sleep. We were in 10 years of doing this never rob, or assaulted. We were always treated with respect and gratefulness. They were also always sent off with a prayer, not a one rejected that either.

That is an awesome story JoJo.

Thousands if not millions of people in this country are only a paycheck away from becoming homeless. The portrayal of the homeless is very often wrong and condemning. In talking to homeless people, I have found them to be professionals, educated people, blue collar workers, single parents, addicts without assistance, mentally ill without resources and help and very few who think, wow! this is the life!

Life is a slippery slope for many, many people and we need to pay more attention not less, in helping these people restart their lives. They don't want handouts but most will take help like JoJo stated above. There are agencies who try to help this population, however, all of the social service and mental health grants from the government over the past 7 and 1/2 years have been grossly cut. What if it was your sister, your uncle, your father? Not everyone has family or friends who would take them in and help them out.

What does that say about this nation? Our nation.

MBird, thank you, you are so right about the social programs being cut...and it really hurts a lot of people the cut backs were never meant to touch.

I think there is gross mismanagemnet in a lot of the programs also.

A friend of ours owns a local restuarant here and when he sees someone homeless he brings them lunch and a application. If they need help he will get them to a shelter they can live at and still work. He has also had them do dishes 1 day if they will not take money, then they earn their pay. Just because they are without a home or money doesn't mean they don't have pride!

Peace. Definitely peace. I think all of the other problems would just kind of fall into place if we only had WORLD PEACE.

It may be that perpetual peace can only be brought about by perpetual war.

Can't remember who said that.

Noam Chomsky wrote a book about this idea or lack of idea! I have not read it but do like his work.
