While I can't say I've reached a conclusion I'll never change, my belief is "once saved, always saved." Why?
When Jesus spoke He often emphasized the faithfulness of God toward His children.
If our salvation is dependent on good behavior, not being cowardly or "vile" (whatever that translates to in human behavior) then the both God and the Gospel are untrue.
How then to reconcile this to the other verses that talk about the condemnation of the soul who meets the criteria in, say, Rev. 21?
Hank Hanegraaf seems to have a balanced perspective on this issue:
Readers of this thread can spend years banging each other over the head with scripture:
"These verses contradict eternal security!"
"Oh yeah? Well these support it!"
"My interpretation is right!"
"No, mine is!" etc. Gets us nowhere.
If we stand on the position that the Bible is God's inerrant word, then it cannot contradict itself, that would make it invalid. Yet the verses used for and against this issue seem to contradict each other! What to do?
Look at first principles. The Bible is without error, we believe. So any contradiction is in our perception or understanding of scripture, not in the scripture itself.
This means some verses don't mean what we commonly believe them to mean.
And those verses are...?
I'm sorry, but I don't know. Not yet, anyway.
Since I believe in eternal security, it seems the verses proclaiming the eternal death of those found unworthy aren't applying to believers.
This is a huge issue and one we won't resolve, but we can kick it around some and it's good for us to find out what we believe and why.
Let me think some more on this.
...sooner than I thought.
First, let's define our terms:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perseverance_of_the_saints spells it out, probably in more detail than you want, but that's life.

Barbara, your post is insulting and self-righteous.

I agree with Ken, Barbara. Maybe you should think of things while you're away. You will push people away with comments such as you have made to both Ken and myself. It is not what God would want of you. God knows both Ken and myself to be His disciples and He talks to us through prayer and especially through His word, the Bible.
Ken, we may go ahead with this discussion for those who may read it one day or join in with us. Thanks for all your help. I am going to start a thread soon on "Christian Suffering". : - )

I don't consider the occasional aggravation I feel here as "suffering," I think suffering means far more than mere aggro.
Barbara's convinced Jesus tells her what to say. I think she's completely wrong and she's confusing Jesus with her own desires, but I can't prove it just as she can't prove I'm a godless reprobate for not agreeing with her interpretation of scripture.
The trouble with Jesus telling you what to say every time you touch a keyboard or open your mouth, is you can't ever admit you're wrong. Why, if you do that then you admit Jesus was wrong! That won't fly. Or you have to admit you screwed up and didn't hear God. Well, if you didn't hear God that one time, how maany other times did you fail to hear God? Suddenly all her posts are now questionable.
Works for me.

Well I know in revelations what I interpret is not so much you will loose your salvation but more you will have some of your treasures taken away in heaven. It depends on what Bible you read out of.
Like read out of NIV and mine says 22:19 "And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book" it doesnt say take away his salvation.
That is my interpitation I belive in once saved always saved, However all sin is forgivable except one and that is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, but yet on the same token if you do that than you were not saved to begin with. I belive that anyone who is saved with the Holy Spirit in them then they wouldnt do that anyway just people who have hardened there heart.
Taking away words from the Bible or adding to it is a sin but not the unforgivable sin. We will be held accountable for everything we do and say if we dont ask for forgiveness.
So thats my opinion, lol may not be right but thats my interpretation

..and, godlylady, you have as much right to interpret scripture as anyone else. After all, no one can walk your walk for you, you're responsible for your choices during it.
What you said bears thinking upon. So let the discussion continue!

Thanks for picking this back up, Ken!! I think we've all been through much more since we ended here. godlylady and I have worked on "causes" out on the religion thread that have been quite challenging. So, yes, let's continue and "discuss".
Ken is right, godlylady, and you do have a right to present your interpretation, so please come back!!!
Ken, I've missed you! Please start threads over here should you wish. I have started another group that boothby, jacquin, etc. can use more for controversial "debate" as they see fit. Right now it's called, "To Be or Not To Be". Our first thread is on what to call the group and finding an appropriate pic.
