Fiber is real important too, garlic, beans popcorn, advacados all lower cholesterol. I had really high cholesterol but brought it down with diet, exercise & medication.

Posted: Jul 1, 08 11:58amPosted: Jul 1, 08 12:10pmHDL: Mine was 71 but in the course of a year I managed to increase it to 91. Here's what my Doc told me: Omega 3 (3 grams a day) Flax seed meal ( 5 tbs a day), reduced fat (eat the good fats...we all know what those are!) and regular exercise but it doesn't have to be manic exercise. 2 to 3 times a week with 30 mins cardio ideally. Posted: Jul 1, 08 12:16pmI'm not so much worried about lowering it, mine's under 120. But the news for HDL and memory makes me want to raise my HDL. The Mayo Clinic has some information on that. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hdl-cholesterol/CL00030 (Shouldn't the mayo clinic be about improving the mix and finding new recipes that use mayo?) The thyroid controls every cell in the body. When I was put on the correct level of Synthroid, my cholesterol level dropped by about 90 points, without taking a statin drug! I agree that proper weight, diet, and exercise are also very important. |
