Though I'm very worried about environmental stewardship, I figure that may be the responsibility of whichever culture next occupies our land. Of primary concerns, to me, are:

- America rotting out from within [thanks to a do-nothing/corrupt Congress]

- the overwhelming influence of corporations and big business [leaving environmental and economic fixes to the rest of us]

- our decaying citizenry [shooting pregnant bank tellers, sexually abusing a child/burying her alive/relatives helping the perp flee, drive-by shootings].

If we don't fix these things, we won't have a long-term impact on the environment. And what of China and India, who are increasingly playing a larger part in destroying the environment? NO ONE seems able to rein in China.

Yep, I am with you on those, DD. Without a culture that has some self-control and ethical values to live by, how can we change our actions to support the greater good? Corporate greed is nearly unchecked, many folks are embedded in their shopping world-view, etc... and all these things mattered less 100 years ago. Now the livability of the planet is in jeopardy and business as usual continues, for most companies and individuals. And yet...

I believe that people are ultimately wise and generous. In order to experience it, there seems to be a wish in the majority to shatter life as we know out so that we can bring out the best in ourselves and others while struggling economically and physically.

Am I dreaming or does anyone else see this as an underlying, unconscious motive for acting so badly against our physical well-being as individuals and as societies?
