All I can say is working from home in my business is all about building relationship. Over a period of 3 years I've made several new friends with lasting relationships, whether they choose my business or not.

If you approach it from a place of service, it works. Ask people "How can I help you?" or "What do you need right now?" or "What are you looking for in your business?" or my favorite, "Is there anything I can do to help you move forward?"
Focus on the other person, ask questions and discover something about them that you can offer expertise or a referral to someone ELSE (not you) and great things happen!
To me, networking isn't so much about getting my name out there as it is finding ways in which I can serve others. That in turn results in trust and respect, and others return the favor when the time is right or a need arises.
The trick is to show up consistently, and put your whole self in - that's what it's all about!

I've had tremendous success networking. When considering something practical like job placements for instance, my entire career has been enhanced by networking. Every job and business opportunity has come from "networking". I think that people need to learn to develop relationships first. Emerson's law of compensation should be the first order of business. "You give more, You get more."
Give more than you take and business comes.

I like to also call network marketing, relationship marketing. I believe good networking starts with building realationships and with helping others succeed

I believe networking does work, once you have developed a relationship. Attending an networking event and expecting something to happen is too high an expectation. I can tell you as a BNI member it works, if your patient, give more than you expect to receive, it happens in abundance. And as an actionCoach I am happy to give, because there is plenty to go around...

I say it absolutly works in the right context. I recently took a position after being laid off and right away I put feelers out to all of my associates that if they heard of anything to please let me know...Well who knew but an associate that I had only met one t ime gave me this referral and here I am. I think the key to successful networking is to give as well as receive. Be willing to help out others when you can and in turn they will help you. Just my 2 cents...
