I watched a really thought provoking movie [and I don't know if most of the provocation is because I truly didn't understand what the point of the movie was about???] called Fighting Elegy. It's set in Japan in the 30's. If someone has seen it and can help me with their comments that would be great.
I also watched an anime from the 90's called Akira. Very weird. It reminded me of another anime that was really good called Paprika but I think Akira was made first. Like I said it was very weird. That's two movies that deal with some strange omnipotent entity stored in some secret place. Wow. bizarre stuff. stuff of dreams.
Anybody else seen any of these?
Howdy all;

I haven't seen any of those films but the first one is supposedly an examination of the relationship between religious feeling and violence (as oppositions). I've read that it might be compared to "Fight Club" although since it is an old 60s film that strikes me as a bit of a strange comparison.

Well I haven't see "Fight Club" so I can't compare it. Fighting Elegy has actually some comedic moments in it, but I would have to see it again to try to figure out what the ending means.

I did see "Paprika," and I agree with your impression that it's pretty weird--dual personality for title character, with flashes of omnipotence, magical occurrences, etc.
Seeking film title---
On the JAL flight coming back from Japan on June 30, I saw a lovable Japanese mystery-comedy film about a middle school teacher whom a policeman asks for help in finding a former student. Many twists and turns later--don't want to spoil them for anyone. However, I never found out the name of the film. Has anyone seen it? I think it's relatively recent, though sometimes the airlines show older films.
