Well, I don't know anything about Michigan, but I am a firm believer in the saying 'home is where the heart is'. I would suggest you focus on making your home a place you love to be. Decorate it with plenty of pictures of friends and family that you may miss. If you have decorations, pictures, or other items or things that may be unique to or remind you of TX, place those throughout your house. Get out in the community and meet new people... if you are a church goer, try a few different churches to find the one you like, and participate in activities there and introduce yourself to people. Go to events in the community to learn more about the area... try the local theater, a civic organization, a museum, volunteer in the community, meet the neighbors and invite them over. Research the area on the internet, and try to learn all you can. Stay positive about the situation, especially knowing it's temporary. It won't do you or your relationship with your husband any good to fight over what has happened. You made the decision to move there together; stick together! Have a date night every week with your spouse... use that opportunity to re-connect. You'll stay so busy, the time will fly by! Good luck!

Wow! I feel your pain, I did the same, as well but we live in North Carolina and now after 8 years, we are in the process of selling our house and heading back to Texas, finally. Do you work outside the home? Do you have children? Ladee posted some very good advice. My suggestion is volunteering and/or if you have children volunteering at their schools, you'll meet people plus be able to keep tabs on what's going on there, get to know your kids' friends, etc... Another is taking classes either cultural, cooking, art or some type of educational classes. My husband and I like to go to farmer's markets, open air markets, etc... so I went online and found all the markets in the region and we've visited markets all over NC and we have really enjoyed it. Not to mention, the fresh produce, many people we've met and cultural knowledge we've acquired along the way. Also, check your area for newcomer groups, as well. Our town has quite an active newcomer group and they have a wealth of knowledge about the area, events and a whole host of other offerings. I know Michigan is famous for cherries and summer is time for all the cherry festivals so...I hope you like cherries! I hope we've given you some good ideas or at least some places to start. Good luck & best wishes...before you know it...you'll be back in the Lone Star State and your friends from Michigan will be beggin you not to move and to come back to visit!

Hello Rekha: You could become a winter-texan and come and visit for awhile during the harsh winter months. Winter-Texans are people who live up north and come down to South Texas to stay for awhile, party, have fun, etc. etc. in the rv parks and places around the valley. I have attached some pictures to give you an idea. We entertain the winter-texans down here in South Texas during the winter-texan season which is from November until April. We also entertain the locals all year round.

Never heard of a winter-Texan, although it is a good description. We always called 'em snow birds. Over here in Tennessee we've got a bunch of half-backs. That a snow bird that moved down to Florida, then realized that was a mistake, and moved half way back home. Tennessee and North Carolina are full of 'em.

Oh man, we're chuck full of winter texans from around November to March-April down here in South Texas. Noticeably changes the demographics for a few months of the year.
