Way to go girlfriend. I'm sure it won't just ease her worries, but yours as well, since I know you'll be worried for her anyway, so now you have one less.

When I was 19 I had tons of problems brought on by HPV, I'm glad to know she won't face the same things.
Well, my youngest and I are heading out with our lanterns to pick blackberries!! C'ya!

I've worked a lot in Womens Health (I'm an operating room nurse). Cervical cancer is a scary thing and if it can be prevented, I'm all for it.
My girls have gotten it. No regrets. Down the road if they come up with an ailment, I certainly won't blame the vaccine like so many others have of other ailments (autism).
Mandatory? No.

My eldest daughter got her third shot a couple of weeks ago, my youngest daughter will be getting hers in a few years.
I really don't see the fuss. It can't be giving kids a "green light" to have sex because they weren't aware of HPV as a risk factor before the shots came out. They worry about things like Herpes and HIV.
If you're telling them, "Hey, you're due for your HPV, MMR, and your DPT." All their hearing is, "We're going to make a human pin cushion out of you today."

It seems to me that it would be much easier simply to give ALL heterosexually active males the vaccine, no matter what their age (and also, of course, pre-teen boys as a preventative.) Then HPV could become like polio and smallpox. . .
If you think that HPV isn't anything to truly be concerned about, I personally know of no less than five young women, teenaged through early twenties, who have already had Cervical Cancer; and one of them can no longer have children. Kind of sobering, isn't it?

Hi, I'm new to this group.
Not only heterosexually active males can be vectors for HPV.
I work in cancer research and I just want to point out that cervical cancer is not the only cancer that is caused by HPV. Anal cancer is also caused by HPV. Because of the recent news of Farrah Fawcett's diagnosis, I became curious and did some research in my medical literature and learned more about HPV than I did before.
I agree that young girls should not be the only ones to be immunized against HPV. Our boys are just as responsible for its spread. And some are just as at risk for death from cancer due to it.
I was a young woman who caught it from her husband. After I was divorced, I joked with one of my single parent friends about bladder infections, positive PAPs, and unpleasant treatments: "We know what causes that and we don't do it anymore." Of course, we didn't know about HPV. We were just realizing what health benefits came with chastity -- for us and at that time. That was even before HIV/AIDS.
