It's hard to find shade friendly flowering annuals but these have worked for me in the past, you could give them a try...
*fuchsia...usually 10"-36" pink, white or red
*Impatiens... Easy to grow 6"-18" (I have "New Guinea") they like part to full shade and come in all colors
*Fibrous Begonias
*Johnny Jump-ups, Violas...Very easy to grow in shade, they say these are annuals but BEWARE...they lie...these are pretty but they self-seed and pop up each year everywhere. Lol, I don't mind it but it drives my husband nuts!
*Blue Lobelia
Sometimes you can get the color you are looking for just by annuals with very colorful leaves like "Coleus". They love shade and the variety of colors is endless, from deep burgundy to multi yellow and greens.
Hope this helps.

This is helpful. This area really gets almost no sun anymore. Next spring I will check out those that you suggested. The fuchsia sounds nice. I've had the new guinea impatiens before and like them. Have not heard of blue lobelia...will have to check those out! Thank you.
