My friend, who is a personal concierge, says that credit checks and post nuptial agreements are all the rage among married folks.
Now, I think a pre-marriage credit check could be a good thing. Gotta know what you're getting yourself into. After marriage, I wonder why two people couldn't just talk about finances instead of using a third party.
True, money is one of the top two things couples fight about (the bedroom is #1). It's a tough subject to broach because it's so full of assumptions, beliefs and taboos.
For example, I think couples should have separate as well as joint accounts. Try explaining why you need 'your own money' to someone who sees that as offensive and mistrustful. Yet, it's worth the effort. Don't I sound like a broken record? Talking is always a good starting place.
Anyway, would you check your spouse's credit, and what would it mean if you did?
