In her books about High Sensitivity, Dr. Elaine Aron states that 70-75% of HSPs are introverted.
Conversely, that means 25-30% of HSPs are extraverts.
Aron doesn't really write much about the "extravert experience," for HSPs. After all, she's about as introverted as they get.
Being an extraverted HSP presents its own set of challenges. Extraverted HSPs still tend to feel the need for "alone time" so they can recharge their batteries, and the feelings of overstimulation are just as real for extraverted HSPs as for introverted HSPs. And yet, they also tend to feel the need to draw energy from "outside;" from people around them.
I am, myself, an introverted HSP... but I do know (and am good friends with) several who are extraverts. One of the interesting "quirks" of our friendships is that I'll write long rambling emails, and they'll respond by picking up the phone and calling me. I don't really like the phone; they don't really like email. Of course, my "sample size" is only three people.
Are you an extraverted HSP? How do you balance your need for stimulation, with your need for alone/recharge time? How do you feel that your experience of sensitivity seems different from the more commonly described introvert "version?"
