I did see it in 3D - spent the money on IMAX, 3D, the works. And still have to say - don't do it. The film was more about "Look at what WE can do" gimmickry than it was about good storytelling or filmcraft.

Well, thanks for the input. I guess I'll just wait till it comes out on video. I had such hopes for it. <sigh>...

My bad... I posted this reply in the wrong spot, so this is a repost:

Has anyone seen the new Beowulf movie yet??? I have not, and am trying to decide if I should spend the $$ and see it in...

Well, call me the oddball, because I liked it. I call it "just as good" as any of the Lord of the Rings movies. (Never did understand why "Return" won an Oscar.) But then, it's hard to compare to LotR as Beowulf is animation. A newer, different type of animation, but animation nonetheless.

Katherine, I'm afraid I'll feel like your son did. I think I'll take Celt's cue and skip the theaters. I'd have to drive over an hour for an IMAX show, anyway.
If you get to see it John, let us know which side you fall on. Thanks all!

If you are going to watch it, do so on the big screen. Your TV, even if it's a widescreen, will hurt it even more.

A friend of mine saw it on 3D IMAX and said it was very enjoyable. I may just have to try it that way...
