I am of course a huge Jane Austen fan. The only problem I have ever had with Jane is, sadly, that there just isn't enough of her to go around. We read and reread and watch all the movies and watch them again and there you are.
I'm also a big fan of Anthony Trollope, a Victorian novelist who lived from 1815 to 1882. Mr Trollope had the good fortune to live a much longer life than our Jane. And he was extremely prolific. I don't think I need worry about running out of Trollope novels to read.
I wouldn't ever compare him to Jane; they are different and Jane is, of course, incomparable. But to me they have this in common - they both give us much to think about in terms of human nature and morality.
For those of you who have not yet read Trollope, I recommend starting with The Warden. It is a comparatively short work, and, if you don't like it, you probably will not warm up to Trollope. If you do like it, then you should proceed to Barchester Towers. I recommend these two books to the heavens. I like his style of writing, amusing and engaging. Years ago Masterpiece Theater gave us Barchester Chronicles which covered these two books. It is one of the very best things I have seen on television, starring Nigel Hawthorne, Alan Rickman and Donald Pleasance. It's available on Netflix.
If we have Trollope fans in the group, I would appreciate knowing your favorites so I can prioritize my unread Trollope novels.
