We told you we are our Pre-season Preview issue data analysis cranking and we just want to share one of the shocks that hit us when we put in 2007 performance data with the 2008 schedule. Our number cruncher gives the Philadelphia Eagles the NFC East championship with a 13-3 record, Cowboys second and Giants third. Now recall last year the Cowboys won the division and the Eagles finished last in that division. Their hold on that is very tennuous however because if we weaken the Eagles defense just slightly from last year (by 10%) their projected record falls to 10-6, a second place tie with the Giants and a "maybe" wildcard. If their offense were to also weaken by 10% they would fall to 9-7, third place in the east and out of the playoffs.
We will be working on the adjustments based on off-season moves but we are really excited about what we see so far and can't wait till we get the whole preseason issue together. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we do.
