I see the devastation of violence against women and children every day at work....the long term effects are so horrifically devastating. The system needs to be revamped....and, we, as a culture, need to learn that it's OK to speak up and it's OK to "stick our nose into it". Indifference and politeness are allowing children - who could be saved - to die at an alarming rate in this country. If you suspect, and listen to your gut, it's hardly ever wrong...if you suspect a child is being harmed call your local DHHS/child protective services reporting number....they're listed in the book & are available through 411. Most every state has a confidential reporting line. These stories break my heart :o(

Yes but from there these people need to be off the street. Done for good. No leniency if you have been convicted of sexually molesting a child and/or the abuse of a child. It is the children we must start taking more seriously in this country. Seriously enough that we separate out when a 17 and 16 year old have had sex. That should not be even in the legal arena under the same category as some of these inhuman monsters. John Couey, this Groene murder and some of the others. Where do we place the safety and welfare of our children? I think the adults are still placed in far too much importance. Our society as a whole should be entirely aware that if you use/abuse a child you will pay and you will not forget that you will pay and you will not get a second chance. Even if it does not work as a deterent at least it gets them off the street. We should never have to read a report of someone tortured, molested, and shot in front of his 8 year old sister after the perp was already convicted and released.

Oh, jacquin, I absolutely agree. NEVER EVER EVER a second chance, when harming a child there should be a ONE STRIKE policy....zero tolerance, the whole shebang. Just lock them up, literally, and throw away the key.

Well I guess if we are ever going to take the safety of our children seriously enough and place their safety and welfare over the importance of these perpetrators there is no other solution.

For me, the abuse or brutalizing of someone unable to defend themselves (old or young) is a trait that really should somehow be eliminated from the human race.
