Yes, I act in community theater. I live in a small town in Southern Oregon and we have about four venues for community theater. I have played the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, the mouse in Alice in Wonderland, the charwoman in A Christmas Carol, the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and a waitress in All in the Timing. I started acting because my children were involved in community theater. I only take small roles because of my busy (mother, spouse, teacher) lifestyle. Also, I find it difficult to memorize lines. Any suggestions or tricks of the trade?

So glad to hear from you. I love to act in my community theater. You have had some fun roles! As far as memorizing lines, I find the best thing is to do a couple of read throughs. Go through the entire script to aquiant yourself. I then highlite all my lines. I then go through and only read the line before mine and mine. This I do several times, then I am familiar with the script. Then, my dear, it's a matter of repetition! Just have fun. We are doing Dracula soon. Also, I am a silent film star in a graveyard walk...very cool!

Will the graveyard walk be around Halloween time? In our small, rural town the historical society performs as the buried citizens at a pioneer graveyard the weekend around Halloween. I'm just wondering if the silent film star is actually buried in the graveyard. I really love the theater, but I find that time is my enemy when it comes to this hobby. I'm not sure if you have kids or a husband or work or anything else that you love giving your time toward, but how do you fit in all the rehearsal time? Just yesterday, I had to refuse a role due to work conflicts. The theater called me to do it even though I did not audition. I guess a lot of people who act on their off hours are busy as well. Thanks for the tips on line memorization.

Hi Cyn, yes I am a background actor and have had a few speaking roles in films. I also do voiceovers and commercials. I love it though it is often frustrating waiting for callbacks. Yet to see a completed film or commercial and no you played a part in it no matter how small of insignifgant is worth it.

Hello group,

In life I am a non-scripted person so I do most of my acting with a local “comedy” improv troupe. I have done a little Playback Theatre and some indie film and stage but my passion is with improv. Our troupe performs most often at MadLab, a small black box theatre here in Columbus OH. We do a great deal of training in Chicago at The Annoyance Theatre and some at Second City. (Cynthianne if you keep us posted on your performances perhaps we will get to see you when we come to Chicago in the future). Looks like this will be a great TBD group. I look forward to visiting often.
