In answer to your question about my personal experience with such organizations, in the Central Florida county in which I live, the county Council on Aging is quite helpful. The Council's website is informative, explaining their various programs. In addition, I toured their excellent facility with my mother recently and was quite impressed.

Reportedly, when a needy Senior needs help with daily chores, the county Council on Aging tries to arrange the service for free. If the Senior can pay for the service, the Council can help arrange the service be done at a reasonable price.

The Orlando Jewish Federation was also helpful and nice when I phoned them once for info about independent and assisted living facilities in our area.

My mother lives in a different county in South Florida. There, I have found the best source of information is the community pool and my mother's neighbors. Many in her community have aides, so asking at the pool for references for aides and other service people is the place I would start. The folks in my mother's community tend to be helpful and nice in giving referrals for all types of services. My mother has hired numerous service people recommended by her neighbors and people at the community pool.

Good luck!
