1. I loved washing my feet when I took a bath. They'd be filthy, being out barefoot all day, so I'd wash one. Then I'd take turns holding them up--the "before" one, all soot-colored, and the "after" one, all shiny.

2. Sleepovers were the most fun you could have.

3. Candy, candy, candy! Let's go get some.

4. Secretly still playing Barbies, only we would make them costumes and do makeup with watercolor markers.

5. Still felt fantastic in a bathing suit.

1-- Getting under the fireplug on a hot summer day. Actually laying in the gutter as the torrent of water splashed over me.

2---More summer fun running around in the rain, fully dressed.

3---Shooting spitballs thru a straw when the teacher wasn't looking.

4---Going to bed on Christmas Eve with nothing in the house decorated, and waking up to a Child's wonderland, decorated by who else but Santa Clause !!

5---Getting that first "I think I'm in love" kiss !!

1. I was hit by a car, an off-duty Chicago policeman on the corner of Lavergne and Chicago Avenue July 27. That sucked. 3 days in the hospital.

2. Dad was drying out in Waukegan. Mom had him admitted.

3. Home was a violent place.

4. The values of those in our neighborhood began to decay.

5. I was a very happy kid.

1.) Emmit Root drove his El Camino through my fence and into the Erie Canal 'cause he didn't like his wife.

2.) My uncle, the mayor, dropped dead from a heart attack while moving a stone at the property of the house he was just completing.

3.) I spent the summer camping and I learned how to cook and tie knots.

4.) My dad left and I didn't see him for a couple of years

5.) I bought a red raleigh bike with my own money for 20 dollars and got a wire basket for it so i could get a job delivering newspapers when i turned 11

1. Michael, and my Spuffy, you are right on about Friday nights....only I did it waiting for Mrs. Jordan, our babysitter, who didn't drive, and smelled like rosewater.

2. Robert D. Roberts, of the perpetually runny nose; tow-headed, pale, and crusty-nosed, I would defend his honor, no matter what...

3. "I think I love you, so what am I so afraid of? I'm afraid that I'm not sure of..."

4. A spring green sting-ray bicycle that morphed, as soon as I straddled her, into a rockin' rambler...

5. A VERY big birthday party at the Popeye Club! What DOES one wear when appearing on TV for the first time?
