Yes, it has been quite hot and muggy - but was able to get out to the Mountains of Karuizawa and now Tokyo has started to cool just a tiny bit! Hope to go to Kyoto for the weekend. I also climbed Mt Fuji - what hard work! I won't try that again!

And now you enter typhoon season, which actually isn't much of a problem in Tokyo, and things start to cool down. Passed through Karuizawa a couple of times but never stopped - did some hiking in the general area though - gorgeous. Ah, yes, Mt. Fuji. Did you do the sunrise at the summit thing and stay in one of the huts? 20 years ago (plus about a month) I was at the summit with my wife for her birthday on 8-8-88.
How long will you be there?

How lucky to be there for 8-8-88. Yers - did the whole hut/sunrise- stumble around in the dark thing and collapse the next day after coming down! I'll be here until mid December.

It's a memorable experience, no? It doesn't fit the usual image of 'mountain climbing' or even of 'hiking' - it has more of a pilgrimage feel to it. It is kind of cool to be a part of this old Japanese ritual of climbing Mt. Fuji. Exhausting, yes, but memorable.
